Pudding Perfection: Castello Taverna

Over the years, I have eaten many delectable dishes in Castello Taverna (in the village of Kastellos in Crete). Last August, for our final dinner before we travelled back to England, the incomparable Vassili and Katerina brought the two nectarous treats shown above to our table.

Food of the gods! Plums, like shiny nuggets of gold, and honeycomb fresh from their very own bees and hives.

Dinner doesn’t come any better than this!

  1. That looks really good. I think that honey is an underrated embellishment on fruits.

(Then again, I almost always embellish apples with honey, at any time of the year, though it is customary to do so on Rosh Hashanah.)

Apples with honey are, as we say in Somerset, gurt lush! My mother used to make baked apples and, drizzled with honey, they were a dish fit for Royalty (actually, probably far too luscious for many of the Royals!!). Honey is also reputed to be very good for us. xx
